Abstract
The conversation with Prosper Kompaoré, the founder of the Atelier Théâtre Burkinabè (ATB), explores the evolution of Theatre for Development (TfD) in Burkina Faso. Since its inception in 1978, the ATB has moved beyond simple message transmission to pioneering participatory theatre practices that empower local communities to take action by diagnosing their problems and finding solutions for change. Throughout this interview, Kompaoré advocates for TfD&s;s role in Burkina Faso as a “theatre of the voiceless,” a space where the marginalised appropriate theatrical language to reclaim their agency and script their own paths towards social justice and resilience.
