Developing a real time full colour head up display (HUD) using highly efficient phase only holographic display technology
Project details
This Innovate UK–funded project developed a real-time full-colour holographic head-up display (HUD) for automotive applications using highly efficient phase-only holographic display technology. Conventional automotive HUD systems based on LED-illuminated LCD projection are limited in brightness, colour performance, power efficiency, and system size. The project advanced a laser-based holographic HUD architecture capable of significantly improved optical efficiency and brightness through phase-only modulation. Real-Time Full Colour Holographic Head-Up Display (HUD) Co-Principal Investigator | Two Trees Photonics Ltd. | Innovate UK | 2012–2013 | £165,780 Developed the optical architecture and RGB laser light engine for a holographic automotive head-up display system based on phase-only modulation, later deployed as the world’s first laser holographic HUD in the Range Rover Evoque.
