Expertise related to UN Sustainable Development Goals

Brief profile

  • My main research interests are in paleo-environments and neo-tectonics of the East African Rift system with a major focus on the Malawi Rift. Among these interests, I consider various aspects of the rifting process at various spatio-temporal scales such as rifting mechanisms and processes, geological environments, resources and hazards due to these processes.

Research fields of focus

My main research interests are in paleo-environments and neo-tectonics of the East African Rift system with a major focus on the Malawi Rift focussing on the processes, timing and mechanisms at various spatio-temporal scales. I also have broad interests in geological environments, resources and hazards due to these processes.

Mapping the Extent of Water Salinity in the Shoreline Aquifers: Lake Chilwa Basin, Malawi

There is a dynamic interface between fresh groundwater and saline ocean water in coastal regions worldwide, known as the fresh-saltwater interface, where salt and freshwater mix caused by natural and anthropogenic activities. The interface migrates inland in a saltwater intrusion process, which further results in salinization and can have signif... Read more

Regional Flood Frequency Analysis in the Lake Chilwa Basin

Floods are natural hazards that cause loss of life and property in many parts of the world. People need protection against flood disasters through accurate and reliable quantification of the frequency linked to a particular flood magnitude. Data for understanding flood behavior and frequency is however scarce in many parts of the world. Regional... Read more

A Landslide Hazard Assessment Approach for Town Planning in Ntcheu District

This study assessed the landslides hazard potential of the hill slopes of Ntcheu District Assembly. Landslides are known to cause lose of life and property, especially in settlements located in hilly areas. Since the Ntcheu District Assembly population is increasing at an annual growth rate of 3.1%, it became necessary that a study be conducted ... Read more
